I’ve been using Shopify and wix to make e-commerce websites for several years. They’re both powerful and beginner friendly platforms but choosing the wrong one could be the difference between a successful e-commerce store and a waste of time and money. So which is the right one? Based on my own experience, my extensive research into these platforms, and speaking with other people who also use Wix and or Shopify, I think I have a pretty good answer.
So while both tools were launched in 2006, they started with different intents

Shopify was always designed to build online stores and has been the leader in ecommerce websites
Wix has been a general website builder that added ecommerce

By default, Wix is very easy and intuitive. That’s their bread and butter (show click and drag layout)
Shopify is more pre-structured which means less can break but less can be customized easily
Shopify is simpler and easier to get a good store up and running
